JANGKAR WATERFALL, KPG. BIAWAK, LUNDU

Jangkar Waterfall is situated at Kampung Jantan (Inside Kpg Biawak, Junction on the left at Lundu-Sematan Road) which is about 90km from Kuching City. Take Approximately 1.30 minutes hike through cocoa plantation, rubber plantation, forest and cris-crossing stream to get there from Kampung Jantan.

The first time I went there was lead by Junglemike, loving it since then and make 5 returns bringing my close friends that are enjoying the nature along.

Though rarely got people visiting this Waterfall, it is advisable that you do not go there if you don't know the way as you might get lost in the forest. Most importantly, bring out whatever rubbish that you bring in. That the water supply for the village people. So, don't bring detergent of shampoo there to bath.

This is the place that I make a bet with Caren where I stop smoking and she drink less Coke. Its been Two years since the bet and i did stop.....

Will make a return to the Waterfall when weather permitting... Also, if raining heavily, please don't go to the Waterfall.. as waterfall will rise up in alarming pace.

Kayaking Journey to Sampadi Island.

On 1st June 2008, 1st day of Gawai Holiday, friends and me planed a kayaking trip to Sampadi Island from a beach at Kampung Rambungan. I know its really back dated entry, but its still fresh in my head. Missing it as this year didn't do anything kayaking in River or sea.

We had our breakfast late and depart to Kampung Rambungan via Sampadi-Lundu Road. Its was really a hot day with the blue overcast skies. We waited for awhile to get on to the Ferry as the ferry interval time is about 30 minutes. Its the first Ferry ride for few of my friends from Ausie.

We get to the beach at Kampung Rambungan and its was freaking hot day as the time was about noon time. We untied the kayak (3 sit on top and 1 sit in) and bring it to the beach then loads the drinks , foods and some BBQ stuff on to the kayak.

Off we go, its take about 1 hour of kayaking to reach Sampadi Island. Sitting at the back of kayak to steer in open ocean with wind above and current below, its not easy. Need to make constant steer correction to go straights. Anyhow we get there safe and sound with me trolling at the back of the kayak.

We hangout a bit and BBQ there.. Then off Gab and me go fishing on the kayak. So didnt take much photo of the island and the surrounding area. Will explore it next time around.

Before we make a move, we pack all the rubbish we bring in and put out the fire we made for the BBQ. Kayaking journey back to Kampung Rambungan beach seem like take hours as we all get tired and the current pusshing the opposite way. Still its take bit more than 1 hour to reach...

Building around Kuching

1. Sarawak Museum
Built in 1891 by James Brooke (1st White Rajah) as his resident, was extended to its present form in 1911.

Today Sarawak Museum is Borneo's main repository of ethnological and archeological artifacts featuring a permanent exhibition of native arts and crafts.

Many of the exhibits are from the collection of Alfred Russell Wallace, a naturalist who, with Charles Darwin, was a co-founder of the theory of evolution. Wallace spent a lot of time in Borneo and was a particular friend of the Brookes'.

An annex to the Museum has ancient Chinese porcelain recovered from shipwrecked junks off Sarawak's coast, and galleries devoted to the way of life of the various tribes.

2. General Post Malaysia

The Kuching General Post Office was built during the reign of Rajah Charles Vyner. Its Greek-style portico is supported by Corinthian columns. The building's facade is the only one of its kind in this part of the world.

3. The Pavilion

Built in 1909. Regarded as something of an architectural enigma, its design is reminiscent of buildings in the southern states of America - a mixture of late English renaissance and colonial architecture. It served as a General Hospital until 1947. served as textile museum.

4. Court House

Kuching Court House, built in 1873 by White Rajah government.It was served as central government head office and venue for all state ceremonies. Present day it is renovated and restored at the cost of RM18 million as the Sarawak tourism complex and hosting hot spot of various art and culture events.

5. Tua Pek Kong Temple

Tua Pek Kong Temple’s history dates back to 1843

6. Square Tower

Built in 1879 as a fortress, luckily never fired a single shot in anger, unlike its wooden predecessor which was burnt down in 1857 gold miners’ rebellion. Nowadays it houses a multimedia information center and video theatre, providing information and documentaries on Sarawak’s tourist attractions.



7. Chinese Museum
Situated on the Waterfront,opposite the Tua Pek Kong Temple, in a former Chinese court built in 1912,this Museum portrays the fascinating history of Sarawak's diverse Chinese immigrants.

Built in early 1900s', demolished on 15th June 2008
